July 20th, 2008

I have been looking forward to this past weekends wedding for a while, as I got to head out to Golden, BC. It’s always a nice break to get away and shoot somewhere new and it’s even better when the couple is incredible and up for anything. Joanna and Renn tied the knot at the Home nestled in the mountains in small intimate wedding ceremony. Having set aside ample photo time, we were able to take full advantage of all the amazing locations around Golden. Thanks you two for having me out to witness and document your beautiful day.

A few teasers.

:: and this is what we drove through to get to this incredible wedding…remember this is July ::

:: ahhh…the life of a photographers wife….::

  • Kim — July 20, 2008 (10:56 pm)

Great work all around, but the shot of his legs wrapped around her is freaking awesome. I love the unexpected intimacy of it.

  • Ryel j — July 24, 2008 (10:29 am)

Snow equals blessed marriage… right! What an awesome fun filled day. I love your style!

  • heather smith — July 24, 2008 (8:17 pm)

    gasp…sigh…

unbelievably beautiful images, gabe. they are stunning.

so, I am pretty much dreaming of the day that rich, alana, and I will find ourselves in some proximity to you so that we could have the honor of a photo shoot. you totally amaze and inspire us. rock on.

  • Rich Smith — July 24, 2008 (8:41 pm)

What the… ice? July? Am I missing something? Do you ever put the winter wear away!?
Amazing wedding! I would say “as usual” but that would imply that I’m seeing the same stuff and it’s getting boring but that’s totally not the case. Always fresh. Always amazing. <– You can use that as your new tag line. heheh

  • Joanna & Renn Davidson — July 25, 2008 (9:38 pm)

Gabe, you rock!! We just wanted to say what a pleasure it was for both of us to have you document our wedding day! You are a truly gifted man! ( you made my mom cry…again!!)

The words: “amazing” “stunning” inspiring” “unique” “fresh” and “fun” seem to understate what went through my mind when I first saw these photos! Thank you so much for capturing our wedding memories in such a beautiful way, these images will be plastered all over our house for the rest of our lives!!…no need to buy art work for the house!! LOL!

They even capture our quirky personalities….the one with Renn’s legs wrapped around me, and the shot of the shoes are great!! Can’t wait to see the 7eleven shots!!

Start editing like a mad-man, cuz we can’t wait to see the rest of em’

    Thank you so very much!

“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”

So this afternoon in a matter of minutes, I received a dozen or so emails directing me to a fellow photographers website. Now it seems that somehow she “accidently” grabbed my images off my blog, put her logo across them and uploaded them as hers…gotta love technology sometimes. (can you sense the sarcasm…I’m laying it on pretty thick here.)

Thanks to all of you who sent me an email bringing this to my attention and I have already contacted her, but have yet to receive a response.

Have a great..copy and paste free…day.

:: this makes me laugh…what happens when you try and right click MY image on her site…::

  • jeremy — July 15, 2008 (3:00 pm)

ugh…what a terrible website (hers, not yours).

  • Brandy — July 15, 2008 (3:06 pm)

It’s shocking to me that someone could think they would get away with that.
Sorry you have to deal with this.

  • Desiree Hayes — July 15, 2008 (3:09 pm)

OMG. Of all people she thought she could claim YOUR images as her own? People are sick in the head. Maybe she should learn photography and take her own dang pics.

  • Kim Townsend — July 15, 2008 (3:17 pm)

Sorry you had to find out this way. She has one of my splash yourself kits and never even downloaded …seems odd :( What a bummer.

  • Stacey — July 15, 2008 (3:18 pm)

I can’t believe someone would do that! That is pretty low!! I hope you get this resolved!

  • erwinwijanto — July 15, 2008 (3:42 pm)

I hope she apologies to you and never do that again !!! I just feel sick to my stomach when people do this !!!

  • Amy — July 15, 2008 (4:04 pm)

That is awful! She clearly has no respect for copyrights as I am sure she doesn’t have permission to use the songs either. Your work is so unique and wonderful I don’t know how she ever thought she would “pull it off”

    Again so sorry!

  • Deanna Hall — July 15, 2008 (4:56 pm)

sorry to hear this Gabe…dumbass girl..I mean really? we have such a tight knit community….I can’t believe people are this stupid…

  • Robinson — July 15, 2008 (4:58 pm)

Sad that people will stoop that to gain customers….

  • Brandi — July 15, 2008 (4:58 pm)

Wow.. I saw this and I went investigating, there is a board she’s on and apparently she’s also ’sold’ equipment to people and surprisingly nobody has gotten anything! She’s got tons of work on her site from all over the web. What a thief.. I hope someone calls the local authorities.

  • Robinson — July 15, 2008 (4:59 pm)

Sad that people will stoop that to gain customers

  • Mands — July 15, 2008 (5:39 pm)

Her site is now down..go figure!…and yours werent’ the only images stolen, several other photogs got burnt by her….some people have no class…

  • Diana — July 15, 2008 (7:20 pm)

Holy crap, what a moron! I hope you and all the others she stole from can get this taken care of, I feel a storm a brewin for her! :D

  • Kristy Reimer — July 15, 2008 (8:43 pm)

Wow! This sure has gotten a lot of response and I’m glad is has. I agree with everyone here……what a moron!! Even though it’s brutal, I hope that in some weird way you can take it as a compiment that she thought your work was so superior to hers that she had to steal it!!!

  • Babs — July 16, 2008 (12:43 am)

Upon checking some of her actual work (I assume, the same redheaded child appears multiple times on blog and site as “her baby”) I can’t imagine that anyone would honestly fall for the idea that the same photographer took all those images. The gap between her apparent skill and that of the images she’s stolen is… vast.

  • Christie — July 16, 2008 (1:10 am)

It’s interesting to me that she places her watermark across the middle of the stolen image, obviously wanting to protect what she stole from being snatched by anyone else. I can’t believe the nerve! I can understand deriving inspiration from another photographers work, heck your work inspires me all the time, but inspiration, is a normal part of the creative process, this is a normal part of the criminal process!

  • Jennifer — July 16, 2008 (8:26 am)

I cannot believe that. What a scam! I’m sorry this happened to you.

  • Nate Dogg — July 16, 2008 (9:07 am)

    2 things….

First of all….LOVE the size of your screenshot….that must a be a Large monitor :) !! LOVE IT!

Second of all, I think what goes around comes around…people that make a practice of stealing, no matter what it is, seem to always get what is coming to them…

just keep up doing amazing work….like you said imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

  • wei — July 16, 2008 (11:21 am)

We have been seeing this sort of thing happening with more frequency. I’m glad it was brought to your attention though. I just feel sorry for the client that books her thinking she’s getting you. The modern day snake oil salesman.

  • Jodi — July 16, 2008 (12:33 pm)

Thanks for the heads up on my images too Gabe. Interesting how her blog work and her other work is so drastically different. It really is terrible the amount of work she went to to “borrow” images, if only she spent that much time learning to shoot and edit.

  • Jessica & Peter — July 16, 2008 (8:25 pm)

We’re flattered the con artist / copyright fraud chose our photo to post. However, no one can do work like Gabe and we all know that. She should definitely be penalized!!

  • ed pingol — July 16, 2008 (10:25 pm)

welcome to the club. =) you’ve made it. congrats! lol.

    //ed

  • gyl — July 17, 2008 (1:13 am)

wow! That is gross. I just dont understand how some people think they would get away with that.

yuck. Sorry it happened to you

  • Clary Pfeiffer — July 17, 2008 (10:24 am)

So your the one…I saw this picture (the couple holding hands with the beautiful tone and nice blur) on Hoffman Photography after being alarmed that a photographer from the STL area stole pictures. I thought, how could any person believe that “Hoffman Photography” took that picture after looking at her blog and then, who took that picture? Mystery solved! Hope everything works out.

  • Arya Wiese — July 17, 2008 (8:04 pm)

Doesn’t it just burn when you can’t copy off her site yet she did the exact same thing to your images off your own site. This would be one reason I paste my logo across my images - I had this happen one too many times. I hope this resolves itself and I am so glad you have people who are looking out for you!

PS I just love your work and have you bookmarked on my blog so that I can get inspiration from your work. You ROCK - just thought you should know.

  • Ryel j — July 18, 2008 (6:46 pm)

WOW that sucks!! So sorry this happened to you!! Your work is amazing. We photogs stick together and got each others back.

  • Ashley Jankowski — July 19, 2008 (10:42 am)

    NOT cool!!!

  • Rich Smith — July 24, 2008 (8:37 pm)

We have arrived. Had to deal with this same thing the other day. Strange what people will do. I don’t blame her though. I would love to claim your photography as my own.
Let me know when the next “claim Gabe’s photos as your own” day is… I’m totally in! :)

  • Joanna Davidson — July 25, 2008 (5:16 pm)

Have you sued yet?? Cuz you should!!

July 15th, 2008

So after many, many emails over that last year from fellow photographers asking me about my post processing and if I have textures for sale, I have finally decided to offer them for purchase. Included will be 12 textures and one action which I use on 99% of my images, at a cost of $55 CDN.

If you are interested and would like to be notified when all tweaks are completed, please email me with the subject line “Textures” at gabe@perspectiveye.com

Thanks to all of you who have pushed me to do this, I wouldn’t be here without you…and for that I am grateful.

A couple samples of things to come:

  • Matt Graves — July 15, 2008 (6:40 pm)

    Put me in line…

  • Michelle A — July 17, 2008 (5:54 pm)

That’s great Gabe! I might even have to buy them.
